Mountain Inn Eckbauer | Hiking & Opening Hours

The Mountain Inn Eckbauer is a traditional mountain inn above Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which has been family-owned since 1927 and opened in a new, modern building in December 2024. At 1236 meters, it combines views, dining, holiday apartments, and a clear focus on the Zugspitze region. Those who visit Eckbauer are not just looking for a destination, but a whole mountain experience: arriving, taking in the view, eating fresh food, staying overnight, and ending the day relaxed on the mountain. This mix makes Eckbauer particularly interesting for hikers, families, day visitors, and overnight guests alike. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/))

Directions, Parking, and the Hike to Eckbauer

The most common search around the Mountain Inn Eckbauer revolves around getting there, and this is where the location scores with several options. Those coming on foot start in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the parking lot by the ski stadium; the walking time is about 1.5 hours. The path leads, depending on planning, via the Partnach Gorge, Wamberg, or Graseck. This makes the ascent varied and attractive for all who want to combine a classic mountain walk with views and nature. At the same time, the official communication clearly shows that Eckbauer is not just a destination for sporty hikers, but also for relaxed excursions with stops and views into the Wetterstein massif. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/))

There are also good but practical tips regarding parking. At the valley station at the Olympic Stadium, there is said to be plenty of space; at the same time, it is recommended to use bus and train for the journey, as car parking spaces are limited. This is a typical point that many seekers inquire about under the terms parking, arrival, or information, and it is very important for planning. Those who do not want to drive can easily reach the valley station by public transport and manage the rest of the journey on foot or by cable car. This keeps the visit pleasant, even on busier days or during peak season. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/fragenundantworten))

Particularly practical is the combination of cable car and a short walk. With the Eckbauer cable car, you can comfortably get up, and from the mountain station, it is only about 5 minutes to the mountain inn. The house describes itself as nearly barrier-free; moreover, access from the valley is also possible with a wheelchair or stroller via a fairly level gravel path, only at the house does it go slightly downhill. This information makes Eckbauer interesting for families and less sure-footed guests, as one does not necessarily have to complete a demanding mountain tour to enjoy the view and the cuisine. Thus, Eckbauer is both a hiking destination and a comfortable mountain address. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/))

For those planning the hike as an experience, there are also attractive round trips. The official hiking guidelines describe Eckbauer as a starting point for tours to the highest situated parish in Germany, i.e., Wamberg, as well as for paths towards Graseck, Partnach Gorge, or Schloss Elmau. A tour via the Eckbauer cable car to the mountain station and then through forest and mountain meadows to Wamberg is indicated to take about 2 hours, while other round trips and combinations with Graseck or Partnach Gorge vary in length depending on the route. This makes Eckbauer a logical hub for day trips, as the mountain inn can be combined with further nature experiences. Opening Hours, Cable Car, and Practical Visiting Times

When searching for opening hours, it is important to categorize the current information clearly. The mountain inn states on its official page that it is open from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and on Wednesdays, a kiosk is open in dry weather. Public communication also mentions a warm kitchen from 11:30 AM to 4:00 PM. These times are particularly relevant for day visitors who want to stop for a meal after a hike or specifically go up the mountain for lunch. Those who want to take photos, rest, or are out with children should not set off too late, so there is enough time for arrival, stay, and a relaxed return. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/fragenundantworten))

The Eckbauer cable car itself also has clear times that are important for planning. The operator states that the cable car operates from April to November; the first ride is at 9:00 AM, the last ascent at 4:30 PM, and the last descent at 5:00 PM, on weekends until 6:00 PM. Especially for users searching for program, today, or opening hours, this distinction between the inn and the cable car is crucial, as the mountain inn and the cable car are not scheduled identically. Therefore, anyone wanting to spend the whole day at Eckbauer should always consider the ascent and possible return times together. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/fragenundantworten))

The combination of cable car, mountain inn, and hiking trails makes Eckbauer a location that can be used both as a spontaneous stop and as a day destination. The journey by cable car is comfortable, while the footpath from the ski stadium or via the surrounding paths appeals more to the classic mountain feeling. The official operator also emphasizes that one can reach the top in just a few minutes with the cable car and then get to the mountain inn via a short path. This simple logic is a clear advantage for families, older guests, and anyone who wants to enjoy the view without planning a long summit route. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/))

Especially in the context of photos, hiking, and restaurant, a good timing plan is worthwhile. Those who arrive in the morning often experience quieter paths and have more leeway for a long stay on the terrace or in the inn. Those arriving at noon should keep an eye on the warm kitchen and the respective return situation to avoid a rushed visit. The official information provides the best basis for this, as it shows that Eckbauer is not only a mountain inn with a beautiful view but also a purposefully organized place with clear processes that give guests orientation. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/fragenundantworten))

Restaurant, Regional Cuisine, and Dining at 1236 Meters

The culinary profile of the Mountain Inn Eckbauer is distinctly regional. The operator states that fresh dishes are prepared with many ingredients from the Zugspitze region and that dumplings are a special strength of the house. This profile aligns very well with the search intent behind restaurant, prices, and information, as many guests are not looking for fine dining at Eckbauer, but rather for honest, Bavarian-Alpine dining with a good view and reliable quality. The combination of mountain location, family operation, and modern re-establishment makes the house appear both traditional and contemporary. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/))

The menu reflects this orientation very concretely. It includes, among other things, goulash soup, bacon dumpling soup, cheese dumpling soup, Leberkäse with potato salad, lentil stew, pasta with tomato sauce or Bolognese, mountain climber schnitzel, Wiener schnitzel, sausage salad, Obatzda, and mixed salad. Vegetarian and dumpling-rich dishes also play a significant role, such as spinach dumplings, bread dumplings, potato dumplings, bacon dumplings, or cheese dumplings. So, for those looking for typical hut classics, Eckbauer offers exactly what one hopes for in a mountain inn in the Alps. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/_files/ugd/feae5c_b173127a0aba4516b1d40a4a9fe4fcda.pdf))

The Eckbauer is also interesting for sweets and the classic coffee stop. Kaiserschmarrn with apple sauce, Germknödel with vanilla sauce, apple strudel, ice cream sundae, coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate, and various drinks complement the offer. This makes the mountain inn suitable not only for lunch after the hike but also for a long, cozy break with a view of the mountains. Self-service at the counter makes the process uncomplicated and family-friendly. Especially after a tour, this is an advantage, as one does not have to be prepared for a formal restaurant visit but can stop by flexibly. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/_files/ugd/feae5c_b173127a0aba4516b1d40a4a9fe4fcda.pdf))

For families, it is important that there are children's plates and that dishes can also be ordered in small portions. This fits well with the location and character of the house: up on the mountain, but without excessive effort, with a clear menu and a cozy, practical concept. Eckbauer thus functions as an uncomplicated stop for hikers, as a meeting point for a day trip, and as a reliable contact point for all those looking for regional cuisine in an exposed location. This combination of views, accessibility, and down-to-earth food makes the place highly searchable and recognizable. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/_files/ugd/feae5c_b173127a0aba4516b1d40a4a9fe4fcda.pdf))

Overnight Stay in the Mountain Nest: Holiday Apartments with a View

A central search theme around the Mountain Inn Eckbauer is overnight accommodation. Here, the location has a very clear offer with the new holiday apartments, the so-called mountain nests. The official website presents three apartments: the green, the yellow, and the blue mountain nest. They are located in the new Eckbauer Mountain Inn, are close to nature, built in low-energy construction, and accessible via a small bridge without stairs. This is particularly interesting for users searching for accommodation, new, or blue mountain nest, as the guest experience is consciously modern, comfortable, and at the same time close to the mountains. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/ferienwohnungen))

The details are particularly important for the booking decision. The green mountain nest has 32 square meters, while the yellow and blue mountain nests each have 31 square meters. The apartments are designed for 2 to a maximum of 4 people, with bookings possible from 2 nights. Depending on the apartment, prices start at 160 or 180 euros for 2 people, with each additional person costing 30 euros per night, and the final cleaning fee is 50 euros. The overnight price includes a mountain and valley ride. This makes it clear: the overnight stay is not an add-on but a standalone offer with a clear price structure and beautiful mountain reference. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/ferienwohnungen))

The furnishings are also geared towards a relaxed, independent stay. The mountain nests feature large panoramic windows, spacious balconies, kitchens with a dishwasher, toaster, refrigerator, coffee machine, and kettle, as well as a small basic cooking supply. Additionally, there is a bathroom with a rain shower, bed linen, a small TV, Wi-Fi, games, children's books, a high chair upon request, and even a dog bed upon request. These details are particularly relevant in the context of photos and overnight stays, as they show that Eckbauer not only looks beautiful but also functions practically and homely. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/ferienwohnungen))

Those who want to have breakfast in the mountain inn in the morning also have a clear structure. According to official information, breakfast is served in the inn from 8:30 AM with rolls, bread, cold cuts, cheese, butter, jam, honey, coffee, and tea. If an earlier start is desired, breakfast can be ordered the day before and brought to the apartment. This is a real comfort point for hikers, families, and weekend guests, as it makes the stay on the mountain flexible yet uncomplicated. In connection with the easy accessibility and the view, the mountain nest becomes a coherent overnight solution for short breaks. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/fragenundantworten))

Height, History, and the New Building of the Mountain Inn

The history of Eckbauer is one of the most important reasons why the location is so strongly searched online. The mountain inn has been family-owned since 1927 and is run in the fourth generation. The official site emphasizes that Julia and Sebastian Ortner have been continuing the operation since 2022 and that the new mountain inn has been open since December 2024. The fact that such a traditional address has been newly built explains many search queries with the terms new building, new, and about. For the visitor, this means: Here, a long family history meets a modern building with a new structure and contemporary use. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/))

The new building was necessary because the old building was no longer renovatable in terms of substance. The operator describes the current Eckbauer as a low-energy house with sustainable building substance. This information is valuable for SEO and for interested guests alike, as it explains why the current appearance of the house seems more modern than the historical name might suggest. Thus, tradition is preserved without ignoring the economic and structural reality. It is precisely from this tension that the special identity of the place arises: old family history, but a fresh, new framework for today's guests. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/))

The location at 1236 meters and the view of Zugspitze, Alpspitze, Wetterstein wall, and Karwendel are among the clearest unique selling points of Eckbauer. The Zugspitze region describes the mountain inn as one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Werdenfelser Land and names the sunny location and the wide view as central strengths. This combination of height, panorama, and regional embedding is not only visually strong but also content-wise important for seekers who inquire about altitude, height, or information-oriented terms. This is not about an arbitrary mountain inn, but about a place with genuine topographical presence. ([zugspitz-region.de](https://www.zugspitz-region.de/gastro/berggasthof-eckbauer))

The fact that Eckbauer has been family-owned for generations adds credibility and charm to the location. The official communication appears personal, down-to-earth, and at the same time professional, which is exactly the right mix for a mountain inn. Guests do not receive an interchangeable brand but a concrete family story with names, faces, and a comprehensible restart. This is particularly valuable when users search for information, about, or reviews, as behind the name stands a real place with history, new architecture, and a clear commitment to hospitality. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/))

Photos, Views, and Family-Friendly Features

For the search for photos, Eckbauer is a grateful motif, as several strong visual worlds come together here: mountain panorama, sunny meadows, the new architecture, the path from the valley up, and the high peaks in the background. The operator itself speaks of space for sunbathing, enjoying, celebrating, and living, while the Zugspitze region describes the place as sunny and scenic and highlights a protected sun terrace and sunbathing areas. This means for visitors and content users: Eckbauer not only provides views but also a clear visual narrative of tranquility, expansiveness, and alpine closeness. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/))

Family-friendliness is another strong feature. At the mountain cable car station, there is, according to the official FAQ, an adventure playground with climbing courses, marble runs, and much more. In winter, children can romp on the toboggan hill and experience snow adventures. At the same time, the operator emphasizes that the path from the valley is accessible with a wheelchair or stroller on a fairly level gravel path. This combination of play opportunities, easy accessibility, and mountain atmosphere makes Eckbauer significantly more attractive than many purely dining destinations, as various age groups can be catered to simultaneously. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/fragenundantworten))

The Eckbauer is also very suitable for smaller celebrations or relaxed group visits. The new mountain inn has been explicitly communicated to have enough space for sunbathing, enjoying, celebrating, and living. Although the source does not provide a hard capacity number, the character of the house is clearly oriented towards flexible use: day visits, dining, overnight stays, and longer stays can be combined at the same place. For seekers looking for prices, restaurant, photos, or information, this creates a very complete picture of a location that offers both experience and function. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/))

In summary, the Mountain Inn Eckbauer is a rare mix of modern mountain accommodation, classic dining, well-planned access, and strong nature experiences. Those who visit the place not only get a view but also a well-structured mountain day with hiking options, cable car comfort, regional cuisine, and accommodation possibilities. That is why Eckbauer fits so well with search terms like Garmisch, hiking, opening hours, restaurant, height, and overnight stay. The name today stands for a newly conceived mountain inn with real history and a real panorama. ([eckbauer.de](https://www.eckbauer.de/))

Had an amazing stay there for two nights. The building is brand new and the apartments are the perfect balance of modern and traditional. The apartment is spacious and well equipped (especially the kitchen). You can choose to get breakfast (ham, cheese, bread…) in the morning and the restaurant is open until 15:30 for lunches. Service was very nice and they spoke good English. Dogs playing around were the cherry on top of the cake :). You can ride the cable car for free once a day or simply hike up. We went there during winter and there were a couple winter hikes options starting from the cabin. Looked like a good area to snowshoe, sled, etc. The restaurant offered all the classics, Schnitzel, knodel, soups, kaiserschmarrn… Looking forward to coming back!

Great playground for kids, and a cable car for those less able to get up the mountain. Isn’t cheap though, worth it on a good weather day. Shorter walking route is steep inclines, not steps. Great views. Good service when we went, but didn’t stay overnight.

Good food at the top of the mountain. A great walk where you can cable car down to save your legs 😁

Spectacular location and beer after a good hike! The service is also great, a special shoutout to Nikki who was very kind and helpful in recommending food and drinks. Definitely worth another visit. :)

It snowed while I was drinking hot chocolate. The kids enjoyed the schnitzel so I recommend that for sure. Really cozy place with some cozy food.
