The Werdenfelserei has created something truly special. I have known Garmisch for over 30 years, and for a long time I rarely returned — simply because inspiring, high-quality hotels were missing. This hotel has not only closed that gap, but set a new benchmark many others could learn from. Architecturally, the property is outstanding. The extensive use of wood, the generous glass facades opening towards the Kurpark and the Zugspitze massif, and the beautifully crafted balconies — all wooden, spacious, and covered — create a warm, calming atmosphere. Even in colder weather, the sun-heated wood makes sitting outside feel cozy and sheltered. From the moment you enter, the hotel conveys a sense of tranquility and craftsmanship. The restaurant is excellent and, in our view, offers very good value for money. Creative ideas are combined with high-quality ingredients, served in beautifully designed spaces. You can feel the family’s intrinsic motivation to create something exceptional — going the extra mile in many details where more commercially driven hotels might stop. Breakfast is also a highlight: an impressive selection ranging from refined spreads to hearty Bavarian classics like Weißwurst, Leberkäse, and Wurstsalat, plus freshly sliced ham from a Berkel machine — a clear commitment to quality. Rooms are well sized across categories, always cozy, with seating areas and large balconies. One small drawback, however, is temperature regulation. During our first night the room was uncomfortably warm at night, while after adjustment it became too cool the next evening. The climate control still seems slightly inconsistent, which did affect our sleep comfort. Service has improved noticeably compared to years ago. Check-in and check-out were friendly and professional. While service used to feel somewhat distant, this has clearly progressed in the right direction. Finally, for a hotel of this caliber, the gym could be better equipped. It is currently more focused on yoga and light training. A few free weights or a barbell would make it more complete for guests who prefer strength training without leaving the hotel.

We spent a great, long weekend here and it was really great. The Spa is really nice: the outdoor pool with great views, the Kaminraum is great to just chill and read for hours and there's a good selection of saunas. I particularly enjoyed the tea offerings. The breakfast buffet was delicious and had a lot of good options and the lunch was also nice. The people at the reception were super helpful.

Werdenfelserei exceeded our every expectation. It really does manage to strike the right balance in offering a polished, spa-centred stay for couples and families alike. We stayed in a spa suite for four days and wished we had planned for a full week. From the moment we found our parking space reserved for us on arrival, to being greeted with treats and bubbly, to the bottle of wine and send off bag, we felt totally looked after. Breakfast is a wide spread of cheeses, meats, cured and smoked fish, veggies and fruits, yogurt and jams, pastries and breads galore. The “light” lunch is an array of salads, soups and a warm entree. Dinner is bright and sensual with all sorts of local flavour and colour. The spa experience is well-designed and does the trick - gorgeous outdoor pool for soaking and taking in the alpine views, a round of sauna and steam rooms, and a warm, quiet lounge area which we referred to as the Nap Room. Finally, the location is perfect for exploring both the town and the absolutely top notch hiking nearby. This was the autumnal holiday we were dreaming of. Highly recommend the spa suite for a splurge. Can’t wait to come back - for skiing next time!

This hotel was fabulous. It was a very pleasant surprise. The food was amazing and the spa experience was too. I had one of the best massages I’ve ever had and left feeling relaxed and recharged. Cannot recommend enough. Will be back.
